High all, I'm new to the forum. I bought a 96 F-150 in July and have been fixing it up since. This forum has already been helpful just seeing others solutions to problems, but now I need to actually join and ask a question of my own.
So here's my problem. I started to change the ball joints on my truck this weekend and I got a little ahead of myself when I pulled apart the slip joint on the passenger side drive axle. After doing that, I was looking through the shop manual I have on CD and noticed a warning about marking the shaft to keep the u-joints in phase when you reassemble. I had never thought about it before but it does make sense that u-joints need to be in phase to give smooth rotation.
So what is proper phasing on this shaft? Do I just line up the the U-joints with each other? That's how the drive shaft to the rear diff is. But I've looked around online and apparently some drive shafts aren't phased like that.
