I've done a lot of searching, but never found that post! I am looking to do this in the future, but want going to go that in depth for fear it wouldn't work my plan was to get the switch from the newer excursion, and find which pins on the switch were for power and output to fog lights, then add my wires straight at the switch, otherwise bypassing the Ford harness for that part. looking at the diagrams, it should work!
Auto zone has all of the wiring diagrams in the website
Just kidding, I misread the pay that's exactly what I was planning on doing I thought he was trying to use more wires in the factory harness, not just the connector. should work just fine, but make sure you use the fog light power from the switch to control a fog light relay that is supplied with 12v positive with a sufficiently sized wire to handle the load of the fog lights.
it would be awesome if there was a way to use the factory relay location, but that might be more work than its worth if the pins aren't already in the junction box.
When my Ex was new, I installed the fog light kit that Ford sold for the Excursion. Since my Ex is an '05, I had to use the 2005 foglights or brackets as the kit came with the lights for the earlier trucks.
The kit came with a switch, but I used my own switch that I installed along with a switch to turn off the air horns. Both were placed beside the power point in the blank plate on the dash.
I seem to remember speaking with the parts guy at the dealership back in the day, who told me that I couldn't use the Ford headlight switch for trucks with fog lights because the connector was different. Made sense at the time, or Ford would've made the kit differently.

makes sense , but the workaround for that would be to get the pig tail for the fog light switch, then compare wiring diagrams and put the pins in all the right places to make it work. it is a lot more work than just popping in a switch, but for guys like me who want the factory look it is worth the extra effort!

I'm sure it's possible, and that's what I wanted to do originally. I'm all for keeping things original. I was then, and still am very pleased with the way my install worked out.
Remember, for me this was almost 12 years ago. (I ordered and bought mine new...January 4th it will be 12 years)
Woow. I barely even remember doing that mod and making that thread.. Alzheimer's has got me bad.. But I never throw away pics. I could probably find them and post them again if needed. The ones posted online were in a photo site that went out of business and the were erased there.

as much as I like the factory look, I am a fabricator, so I like seeing all of the cool and unique places people mount things to get what they want. it is art to me!

Housedad, appreciate the response. Please post the pics. I have a 2000 so I know I need to get a new oem switch from a later model with the fog option, and will follow your wiring on that thread and tackle it. Only question I have for now is did you use any relays? Stock relay perhaps? Thank you!

for some unknown reason Ford the factory fog light relay was not operable in my Excursion. It did not come with factory fog lights, and I suppose that they either did not have the programming installed to operate the relay or the fog relay was not there. I ended up using a Fog light kit with harness from Ford that used a toggle switch to activate a relay that fed battery power to the fogs. (The connector for the harness was there but dead) It used a dedicated wire to the battery for the feed. the Pics and the th read describe how to install that factory harness (It would be easy and cheaper to make one just like it) and to have it switched from the regular dash light switch instead of that ugly toggle switch. If your current switch does not have a position to turn on the fogs, (Auto, off, park, on, fog) you will have to get the switch that has the fog position. The part number is in that thread, I believe.
I also remember a small mod I did that allows me to turn on the fogs even with the high beams on. That is a no-no in most states, so I have a hidden underdash switch that allows me to turn off that feature when getting inspected. Now, years later, New Jersey has gutted the inspection requirements and I just leave the switch on. They basically only test emissions anymore so they can keep getting Fed EPA money. Your state may be different.

Not true...the connectors are the same. The pin outs are different. You can plug in a headlight switch w/fogs into an EX without fogs and vice versa but the connector won't have wiring and pins for the fogs.
Simple fix...install the two missing pins into the harness side of the connector and run a wire to a relay for the fogs or go to a junkyard and find a F250/EX with fogs and cut off the harness.
DigiKey.com sells the pins. The easiest option would be to just cut the connector/pigtail if you can find one in the junkyard.
Last question I have is, is there a better place to hook up the relay beside connecting directly to the battery (I'd like to keep my batteries free of any auxiliary connections if possible)?
Is there a stock relay receptacle I can use or can I just tap the relay into any hot wire and ground wire at the headlight switch or something?

Good info, and I'm sure you are correct...but 11 years ago I took the word of someone who should've know...
I'll post a pick of how I installed the switches just as a FYI for those that might have an interest. As soon as I get down to the garage today...

You should be able to tap somewhere at the junction box.
For anyone that's interested in adding the missing pins for the relay, here are the pin outs from a 2003 headlight switch connector with fogs:
#5 Pin/terminal removed:
For adding new terminals, you can either buy them from Digi-Key (part# 368084-1) or rob them off an existing connector.
