Diagnosing "Rattle" on Deceleration

Hey everyone, back with another mystery sound!

75 F150 with 460 and 1406 eddy carb.
Definite exhaust leak

Hopefully this is not a mystery to some of you. I've been noticing a rattle for the past couple months when I first crank the truck, when I let off the throttle at high RMP, or when I shut the engine down. It primarily occurs immediately after I release the throttle but will stop as soon as I touch the throttle again. See the video below. It's a little faint, but you can hear it best when I turn the truck off.

Any feedback on this will help. Thanks!

I could not hear anything. I would with the truck shut off get under there and ck things for being loose like starter, exhaust manifolds (heat shield), flywheel/trans bottom insp plate. Exhaust pipe connections, cross member...

Then with it running, and help from a friend on the key, AND all things safety involved like the truck in park, ebrake.

With the steering turned all the way to be able to get in there. Stick your head in the fenderwell and have them turn it off. Do that on both sides. Then get under the hood and try it again.

Just replaced the U Joints, but the driveshaft is a possibility; however, the sound is coming from the engine compartment more than under the truck.

Thanks, I'll get a helper and start poking around. I'll update later if I can find the related issue.

i would fix the exhaust leak first. my 460 with 1406 had a similary problem, but it was more a "rumble". Cause was a exhaust leak at the manifold.

Yeah, definitely on my list of things to do. I'm thinking about just buying some headers and slapping them on myself and eventually putting some mufflers on it. I just don't know how tolerable it would be with open headers and no carpet.

That sound when you shut the truck off is your exhaust leak it is not a rattle but the burble you get when you decelerate an engine. Fix the leak and it will go away.

It is not very tolerable at all with headers, pipe and tips. And then even worse when I put the stacks on. lol

But the header mufflers make it alot more tolerable.

Thanks for all the input. I think its something to do with the crappy original headers and the heat shield. I'll update this thread once I update the exhaust. Thanks!
