So I went by my dealer to pick up my trailer camera today. The GM told me to make sure I lock my tailgate. He said the police had let them know that these tailgates are a hot ticket item. They cost considerably more than the 2016's.
You would be surprised at the amount of people who don't lock their vehicles and leave all their valuables on the seats. They wonder why things get stolen.
XL trucks with crank windows have a manually-locking tailgate like we have always had in the past.
All trucks with power windows but without push-button start have a power-lock actuator in the tailgate which physically locks the tailgate whenever the doors are locked via the in cab switches, the remote, or the keypad on the door pillar.
All trucks with push-button start use an electric tailgate release and do not have a handle you can pull. When the vehicle is locked, electric power is simply removed from the push-button release. There is no physical "lock" on these trucks, but it serves the same purpose.
I went to Mcgards website and they didn't show having this lock for the 2017's. I had one on my 2012 and 2015. I honestly have only had the truck a few days, so I haven't looked at the tailgate yet.
