Alright my truck has been sitting for two months... Broke zf5....Finally found a zf5. Put everything back togethernow it wont start... Cranks fine tries to fire but nothing.. I believe its starving for fuel.. I have wts light. tried unplugging icp sensor nothing. Im not hearing to fuel pump kick on.. Maybe cam positioning sensor. Any suggestions? Thanks
Yeah i thought about that.. It been inbetween 20 and 40. I tested the selonoid and have power to them... Im not gonna lie i dont know very much about diesels this is my first one. Now do u think from sitting some of the fuel could have leaked back to the tank... Do u think if i drained the bowl and filled it with new fuel would that help?
Now another question with the dual tanks if im running the rear tank do the fuel lines run up to the front tank before the pump or are they seperate lines
If you have white smoke out the tail pipe while cranking, then it's getting fuel. Try jumping the two big posts on top the glow plug relay together with a screwdriver for about 30 seconds, then try to start it.
Does it have a working block heater? Try plugging it in a few hours and starting it, that'll rule out glow plugs. Mine had 8 dead plugs. Replaced 4 one night would start to about 35 anything below that and nothing but smoke. Replaced the other 4 that weekend it starts at any temp now.
well no luck.. im getting fuel. im against using starting fluid but I tried and it started and shut off.. it would run as long as I sprayed it in but would not stay running... glow plugs working... my gas motor head is running out of diesel ideas... bad fuel? again started and ran two months ago before I pulled the trans. and it started for about a minute on the first start after I put new trans in then died now will not start
Yeah i have smoke when cranking and not sure on codes... Going get check fuel pressure and maybe get a scanner tomorrow
Okay, smoke is a good thing. Means you are getting fuel in the cylinder. This pretty much narrows it down to 3 things that could be the problem. Glow plugs not working and not heating up the cylinder, worn out injectors, or low compression. It is normally one of the first two things. Low compression is the least likely, and it would have to be significantly low to disable the truck from starting at all.

I don't think you are not getting fuel. The white smoke proves that. Would not be a bad idea to check out the fuel in the bowl though. Maybe drain and fill it to get some fresh fuel in there.

Did you ohm test the GP's through the wiring harness to ensure they are all good?
I would start by draining the fuel bowl and get some fresh fuel in there.
If you have confirmed the GP's are actually firing up, and you are getting white smoke when cranking, my next though would be injector issues.
Update.. Got it running... I drained the fuel bowl yesterday and i actually ran the torpedo heater under it for about a half hour. Maybe bad glow plugs?
