So my window motors suffereed from the dreaded POS bushings that let the gear slip and the window glass not go up at all. The friendly guy at the local NAPA said I would have to buy new motors (all three of mine are dead.) I just laughed at him, and asked if he had a better idea. He suggested some1/4 fuel line, cut to just the right size and a piece of No. 2 pencil broken off on the inside to make it solid.
Total cost=$.56
What do you know it worked. Beats the heck out of buying three reman window motors, when I knew I already had three good motors, just shattered bushings.
P.S. If you don't put something inside the tubing to solidify it, the window still slips, I tried it that way first, then decided to use the pencil.

That is GREAT! I used the wonderful step by step directions I found previously on this board to replace my gears. As others have said, the motors still worked FINE, just the gear thingys were all chewed up. Only thing is: is was still a bit of a royal pain to remove the door panel, bust a few clip-holders, take the door apart, drill out the rivets, etc. So I think you have to decide if you want to do a fix that may or may not last very long using the rubber fuel line and wood bits, or just buy the correct replacement gear parts in the first place? I think they only cost me something like $36 or so, and I assume they should last another 14 years, as that is the age of my Bronco. But how long untiull that soft cedar pencil piece is chewed into slivers?
Now. on the other hand, if you are up in the back woods and this gets your windows working for the rest of your trip, then, hey, why not? I LOVE finding out new MCGIVER fixes like this! Thanks for the information!
