Hitch receiver inserts?

I just use a locking pin and leave it there most of the time. My shins have not been happy about that a few times.

Ok so I went and talked to my salesguy and he gave me a sleeve type insert. I put it in the receiver and then then my Back-Up Buddy light and it flops around like a fish out of water...It was fine in my old truck...what am I missing???

One 3" to 2 1/2" and one 2 1/2" to 2"
