I can't figure out what Ford was thinking with this 2.5" receiver.
Are there any ball mounts that fit without grinding? Reese makes a 2.5", but I hear people saying they had to grind them down. WTF, 2.5" is 2.5"! Does Ford have an OEM 2.5" that will fit their hitch?

Thanks...
It's a class five hitch. Like the previous post said get an adapter. In my case I needed a step hitch anyway so I got a class five hitch.
So what's the point of having a heavier 2.5" hitch if everyone is just going to use an adapter and use 2" ball mounts?
My guess is a 2" is fine for most owners needs when using bumper pull (ex. utility trailer). Anything heavier will use a gooseneck ball or 5th wheel hitch.

Have you seen the size of some of the toyhaulers and other bumper-pull trailers out on the road? They are so far past the weight ratings of the 2" hitches. It's a good idea to put the heavier duty receivers on these trucks. That being said, most people are used to the 2" receivers and all their hitches go in a 2" receiver, but it is still safer to use the 2.5" system for those who do tow heavy. Don't forget that this is a very powerful diesel truck and people are going to continue to tow heavier and heavier loads with them.
Which hitches are these? I took my 2" receiver to the Ford dealer and it fit perfectly in the '11 F-250 there. Was there an option of getting a larger hitch? Can't find it on my window sticker.

Is there a class V option?
Must have been built before they switched to the 2.5" sometime in May if I remember correctly.
I'll have to double check what my trailer shop installed. Def not a Reese but they sold me a receiver that slid right in my class 5. I did not nor should not have to grind anything!
I bought the U-haul 2.5" adapter. On the sku description they call it the Ford adapter. It had to be tapped-in to get it started but it fits fine. I had to add some shims as my 2" hitch had a bunch of movement and slop that I didn't have before. Anyone know where we could get 2.5" hitches that are reasonably priced?
they're all over the internet for $40-80 depending on quality and drop. Even my local truck parts store carries one for $75 (not including ball). It's not as cheap as a 2", but it's heavier duty... so I guess we knew it would be more expensive.
right now I'm running an adapter with my old 2" ball mount. I need more of a drop on this truck, so this afternoon I'm going to go pick up that $75 one from the truck accessory place
Got mine w/ a 7 inch drop at State Trailer Supply. I think the hitch was about $70, got 3 different ***** and a nice locking pin. Out the door was approx $120 (don't have the receipt on me). They had 3", 5" and 7" drop in stock. We measured the 7 inch and it should be perfect with my height (leveling kit and 35" tires).
