While waxing my truck yesterday under bright sunny skies, I failed to keep track of time. At least four hours in the sun without sunscreen (stupid, I know) and now I'm about as red as my truck. Are there any ways to stop the burning feel, at least for a little while? I once heard that vinegar works, true or not?
Vinegar works - stinks to high heaven, but it pulls the heat right out of the burn.
We have some green jelly stuff at my house, comes in a big bottle, we keep it in the fridge. It's got Aloe in it and stuff - rub it on, helps the burn a bit.
I keep a bottle of SPF-50 (or 35 - I can't remember) children's sunscreen with me. It's blue until you rub it in, to make sure you don't miss any spots.
Aloe is probably the best thing for a burn, medicaly speaking. But white vinagar takes the sting away better. It's also dirt cheap, unlike pure Aloe. It will stink, bad. I didn't believe it until a few old fisherman at Cape Hatteras got me to try it once.
a mix of rubbing alcohol and water. take a smal towel big enough to cover the sunburn wet it in the mix wring it almost dry then lay it over the burn. when you start feeling the heat again pull it off and rewet it and do it again.
After doing that for a while it will take most of the heat out of the burn. Then I usually will but something like Noxema before I go to bed. Usually helps pull the last bit of heat out of it.
Thats what I have found works the best for me. Course I only burn once a year and it only bothers me for maybe 2 days then it turns into a nice dark tan that stays with me for most of the winter.
