Trying to learn more about horses...anything I can...I'm like a sponge...I'm on a mission to learn. Been spending time out at my girlfriends dads (they are big into equestrian stuff...gf's sister took home 10 ribbons at todays show!! 12 classes 10 ribbons...not bad I say!!!)
Anyway 7 horses out there and room for lots more lol, anyway trying to learn, so is there a forum like this one? I'll be searching google some more for basic info but... I figured there might be a place like FTE ?
yaya but I've seen lots of people talk about horse trailers > My reasoning is that if your pulling a horse trailer you probably know a thing or two about horses.
Not to mention fords use Horse Power...or is it they generate Horse power he he he.
chado, my grandpa always said, "Keep in mind, son, the only good horse is a dead one." What he meant by that was that any horse can be dangerous. Never become lax around one. I have three Missouri Foxtrotters, a Quarter Horse and a Pinto Paint. Two weeks ago (after about a month of not riding him) I saddled up my gelding and just climbed on. He bucked for about 2 minutes, almost wore me out. Knocked my Copenhagen out of my pocket!! Now that's what got me cinched in! But, I know there has to be plenty of forums for horses, just never looked. Hope you can find one and can get interested. Horses are pretty special animals.
Her horse TC is supposed to be part quarter horse and part something else...but they just got a purebred ... (sorry not very good with the names, just was told way to much stuff in way to short a period of time) anyway, the newest one is a chestnut brown colour...they were all mostly ex-race horses. They have one mini horse (which is evil incarnate, never seen something so mean!) The mini horse chases the big horses away from grain and hay so he gets first picks. I'm surprised they haven't kicked him to death.
Anyway, he is for sale along with this...white one with spots (they told me what kind that was to and I forget ) and then they will be left with 5 which are all light brown to dark brown and most are quarterhorses.
But I will keep searching for forums...when I can read something I can retain it better then when I hear it in general conversation as I have a chance to make sure I understand it before I'm done reading.
If you really want to buy a horse,go in with two other people.
Tell them you will be buying *the middle 3rd*.
This way : You won't have to feed it, you won't have to clean up after it, all you will do is ride it
Our daughter was born to ride - oblivious to the fact that neither parent knew a whit about horses. We've found Practical Horseman to be one of the better publications for those trying to learn more about the equestrian world.
chado , horses are abig deal around here , actually every where I guess. i've built lots of fences for their owners. They can put you in the hospital quicker than you can spell Seabiscuit. I work around them all the time but I Don't have any desire to own one. They are truely beautiful and intelligent animals BUT they are like people as they do very stupid things. you can own and feed a horse for about 40 amonth...but just call the vet out for a minor tuneup and your gonna speed 300 bucks before you can say FTE. Let your girlfriend's ole' daddy spend ALL his money on your girlfriend's horse unless you got lotsa bucks you don't mind throwing away. sk
Oh for sure skuteman. I'll let him cough up the $ for now...I get to ride for free why would I complain? But I like to learn, and in a few years if school goes well and I'm a corporate liar then I will be able to afford a few horses if I want...but for now its just time to learn...thanks for the help so far guys!
What kind of riding does she do? Since she has mostly QH's I'd assume western, but thats not always the case. I haven't had much luck finding good active western forums. Chronicle of the Horse is a huge english forum that might be of a little help to you. It has a nice general horse care section if nothing else:
