Help with using high idle mod on Remote Start

I'm getting ready to have a Remote start unit installed on my truck (Valet 562T) so that i can have remote entry and remote start. The unit that I'm having put in has an Aux button that can be used to turn on rear defrogger or I'm hoping my high idle. Hoping that I can have my remote start unit installed so that the Aux button on the remote can be used to initiate the high idle. Any help or thoughts on this installation would be greatly appreciated.

Valet products are made by DEI, the company that makes most of the remote entry and remote start products. I'm assuming that it is a good unit, and the price seemed very agreeable.

If the unit can turn on something like a window defogger, then I assume it includes a relay to activate an electrical circuit. Is that right? If so, you just need to find the wire that is commonly used with a upfitter switch for the high idle. Tie that wire to the relay contacts instead of the upfitter. You can search here on FTE for info on finding the high idle wire. It's been discussed a lot. In fact, I believe there is something in the tech folder too.

Incidentally, your truck should go into high idle on it's own after 2 minutes if the motor is cold.

Look in the installation instructions and see what the output is for the Aux (+,-, timed, latched or unlatched) if it is latched + it is what you need. If it is – than you will just need to use a relay to change the output to +. Whatever the output is you can make it work. Look in the Tech folder to decide which high idle mod you want BCP or PTO.

I have a Commando RS/Alarm and the high idle works normal once the truck starts with the RS. I believe normally the high idle kicks in after about 60 to 90 seconds after the engine starts. Mine starts, high idle kicks in and then when I turn the key and hit the brake the high idle disengages. Why would you want to change the high idle start interval?

You can set it up to go into high idle by hitting a button on the remote. I only use it if I am going to idle for an extended period of time so I don't waste fuel.Easier than going into the truck and flipping a switch. I'm just a remote person I don't get up to change the TV either.

I used the high idle on Aux 4 and I leave it on or not for the extra high idle. You dont need it in winter, the truck will idle up with colder air temps. You just need it for extended idle in summer or for charging or once its warm enough to go to hi idle. If you remote start at really cold temps, I would not engage the hi idle, the computer will do this safer, it waits a bit before going to 1250 RPM. With the hi idle on it would go right away so long as in park, e brake, aux 4 on.

The high-idle yours runs automatically is a cold-engine strategy that will take the engine up to about 900 RPMs.

If you desire, you can use a switch to provide 12 volts to one of two wires, which will give you about 1200 RPMs any time you want it.

Check the Tech Folder for directions if interested.

So you don't water lock your engine and completely clog your EGR.

I agree with everyone else that there isn't a reason to turn the high idle mod on with the remote start. You'll just be hurting your engine by idling that high at start up.

All the 6.0's will idle themselves up after a few minutes.

As Liv said, long idling can cause clogged EGR valves. It can also cause wet-stacking: Diesel engines that are left idling for an extended period can actually cool-down below normal operating temperature. When that happens, the fuel isn't fully burned, leaving wet fuel behind the combustion process. This wet fuel builds-up on the valves and anywhere else it lands, and will evenually harden.

I just set my brake andmy switch is already on(never turn it off), in the a.m. i use the remote justbefore i tie my shoes, it fires up normal and 5-7 seconds later it comes up to 1200 no problems sounds nice and smooththats at minus 20 celcius. usually plugged in as soon as its below 0c but also running petro can duron syn 5w40. at that temp not plugged in with conv 15w40 I wouldn't do it. wouldn't waste time on remote switch for high idle, better things to do like take it for a drive in the woods maybe take snowmobile along
