I'm currently rounding up the parts to build (at least) a 540 Stroker. I have Eagle 6.700" H beam rods with 2.20" journals and .990" pin holes and I've found a 4.50" stroke crankshaft. The only thing left to get is the pistons. What pistons do I need to look for to work with this combo? It'd be great if someone knows the manufacturer and part numbers for these or at least the piston specs so I know what to look for.
You but Probe pistons & you'll be sorry. I have fought the ones I have for years! I'll never buy 12 again. My current stroker uses J&E custom slugs & were almost the exact price as those crappy Probes! If you want details, e-mail me, ask over at fordmuscle.com or the 385 forum. If you aren't trying to get 15 ti 1 from it Scat can sell you a set as can KB.
qtrmiler,
Details please. You're the first I've heard with problems from Probe. What happened? Sounds like it was a pretty bad deal. SRP, J&E, Arias etc all make good pistons from what I have heard. Always heard good stuff about Probe, until now. There's nothing worse than spending your hard earned cash on something and then having it break or not work right.
I was told "Sure, we know all about Blue Thunder heads & we custom make all of our pistons, we don't use a shelf piston". I bought them & mocked up the engine & no valve clearance! I paid $10 a piston for it! Took them to the machine shop to be cut... Those idiots used a Chevy piston & the intake angles were different! One piston gone. CC'd the rest as I asked for a 100 CC positive dome so I could do some tricks I know of... 11cc's! Of course I couldn't get any help from them since I only had 9 left. I went so far as to try to get my first 4.5" crank from them... first was bent, they tried to blame it on Fed Ex but couldn't. Second one was bent worse! Had to get a lawyer to fix that problem. They assured him the next would be the last either way... absolute junk! I bought the next one from Scat... perfection. I'm not the only one that's had these kind of problems.
Thanks for the info on Probe. So far they are the only one I've found info for on the net (part #'s, prices, etc.). I've looked at JE's, KB's, and a few other sites but no info on these pistons so far. I asked this same question over at the 385 forum but I haven't got alot of responses so far.
BTW, my machinist said he had several customers with BBF's who had bad luck with KB's. Melted hole right through the top of them. Not running nitrous or boost, just NA. He thought it had to do with the ring end gap. I'd be leary of KB's in BBF's. I trust my machinist a lot. He's a good guy who doens't blow smoke.
Call the manufactures direct. Most make pistons that never see the catalog. I would stick with the forgings rather than experiment with the hyperutectics (spelling).
I'm looking at a ballpark compression ratio of 12:1. Stock heads C8 - D0VE's) with a good port and polish job and larger CJ valves installed and a cam somewhere around .585/.585 with roller rockers and possibly roller lifters. Edelbrock Victor or Weiand Stealth intake and a Predator 930 cfm carb.

Brian,
I'd have to recommend an upgrade in the intake department. The Performer is not much for a 460. You should go with a Performer RPM or a Stealth. Those are far and away better for your engine.
