You are in for a set of custom forgings. They are not that expensive considering what your gaining in reliability. A good rev limiter is in order here as you will have so much power this thing could get away from you and overspeed itself to death. It only takes a quick sec with a 540. The rods are the weak link.
The Stealth is a dual plane with big runners. It flows all the way up to 6800 RPM's but still makes a load of torque on the bottom end. I have one on my 68 429 and I've been really pleased with it's performance.
The Stealth intake is similar to the Performer RPM. Most people think the Stealth is better overall. One article showed it to be superior to the RPM in both HP and torque prodcution. I hae heard that some people got some with less than ideal build quality lately. Mine purchased approximately 2 years ago was perfect. Both the RPM and Stealth are high rise dual planes. The Staelth comes in two varieties the regular and the CJ/SCJ version. The ports on the regular are very big, the ones on the CJ/SCJ version are gigantic. You would want the regular version. I think they are the best thing going and you won't lose any low RPM torque with them.
It is sweet in the van. The pictures don't do it justice. It is a massive piece. It runs awesome. My van weighs 7200 empty and I tow a 7000 pound trailer and when were all loaded up to go racing the van and trailer together weigh 16,000 pounds. I get 7 mpg towing my 24' Pace car trailer on the highways mixed with lots of hills and 8 empty around town driving pretty spirited. And I get almost 11 rodding the local highways. Lots of hill here in Oregon and I have no mercy on them. With the Holley 750 you can’t make it bog and it’s as smooth as injection. I have an extra tight towing converter in there too. The next thing I need is a tach as this thing knows no limits and I’m afraid I might over wind it on the hills. I can pull over 60 miles per hour on the steepest hills with the trailer and it sounds pretty tight. What a rush after 10 years of going 26-32 mph with the diesel. On the highway with the trailer it feels like the perpetual tailwind. Without the cruise control on every time I look down I’m going over 70 again. It also runs good off road as I take it in the sand dunes and it pulls on the bottom and roosts sand all over if you want to get after it. You could say I’m pleased. My next one will be a 545.
qtrmiler,
Yeah, my machinist said he had good luck with them in all kinds of motors, SBF's, SBC's, BBC's. But for some reason they were bad news in BBF's.
