You will need an aft axle fuel tank filler neck from a 1973/76 8' Styleside, but there are TWO different types: With or without Evaporative Emission.
Evaporative Emission requires a NON vented fuel cap that has 4 nubs instead of the non Evaporative Emission cap that only has two.
When the filler hose was purchased from FoMoCo, it came with the vent hose taped to it. The specific vent hose was not available by itself, it had to be cut from bulk hose.
Vent hose basic part number 9170 is for Econoline only, there's no reference to F100/350's for this number.
It has the fill hose hole and the vent hose hole. I do not believe it has evaporative emissions. What I need to know is if the cap and mounting style of the filler neck between the two bodies (73-76/77-79) were compatible.
The above info was quoted from post #2. Here's the reason why you cannot use 1977/79 parts on a 1973/76.
1973/76 Stylesides have exposed fuel caps, 1977/79 Stylesides have fuel doors.
The filler tubes and fuel caps are specific to one type or the other.
All of the above: With or without Evaporative Emission.
So a cap from a 73-76 will not screw into a 77-79 filler neck? Do the 77-79's have a screw on cap or something? All I really need is the part where the cap mounts, we can make the rest.

I don't know if the 1977/79 cap will twist on, but it looks completelydifferent than the 1973/76 cap....which was painted body color and had a knurled edge.
The 73-76 exposed fuel caps have two fins on the cap that lock into corresponding nubs on the filler neck. the 78/79 caps are more similar to modern cap that just kind of screws in. They are not compatible.
project M pit, pic as requested. This truck came with a regular gas cap #5. The one all the way to the right.
The #1 blue no handle fits tight, but does not have the handle to remove easily. The #2 black, #3 orange and #4 chrome w/black handle flat face ones are the flush bed side when installed and have the handle to take it off.
BUT..the neck is to long on all 3 of them. See the difference in the upside down line up? They thread on fine but do not get tight, and yes they still have a gasket.
Off and sort of cleaned up, and will be shipped tomorrow. I will include the cap that fights tight, even though it is not the correct one. But at least you will have one till you locate the correct one.
Truck has an 8 ft bed, 2 tanks under the bed with fuel doors in bed side. 38 gal rear tank, probably a 19 gallon side or mid tank. Vent and filler hoses were radiator and heater hose. Bought correct replacement hoses from LMCTRUCKS. Rear tank both fit. Mid or side tank the filler hose is clearly too large a diameter for fuel tank spout, which is around 1.8 inches OD (1 4/5 in). Old Radiator hose that came off tank was around 2 in OD. I assume tank in truck not for this truck. Any experience in finding a fuel filler hose that will fit?
photo shows too large filler hose in place with shims that will probably leak when tested.
