Agreed. When the bar is lowered to everyone, I believe that's what happens. In fact, when I got my amateur license in 1976 even that was a much different experience. With the removal of code and sites that allow you to memorize the questions/answers ham radio is not anything like it was either. For that reason, I no longer enjoy it as a 'hobby.'
As a prepper, when the SHTF (whether that's a big or small event) I'd like to be able to communicate in as many ways possible. And CB (as annoying as it is, is still a great way to communicate with truckers on the highway which is usually valuable to me.)
But overall, I agree with you -- and that's kind of one of the big reasons I don't want to 'junk' up my truck with all kinds of radios, wires, and antennas... I'd like for the stuff to be out of sight until needed... then right where I need it when I do.
Man, I remember those days... AUDIO... AAAUUDDIIOO. This is VE3.. While I never had my licence, I did fix a ton of two way radios of all types before going into remote repeater sites. I miss those days, not the pay
Because of the demand being so low, I doubt there will be cover panels made soon. I would look in the spring for a panel to mount a CB or two way on the center console. As these trucks get sold to companies, the installers will have to have a trim panel to mount a radio to.

Thanks for the link! I might investigate further as that looks like it might just mount in the bottom of the console with plenty of room to spare! "Ahhh breaker 1-ohh (now 1-9) this here is Rickshaw, super trucker, thats a big 10-4 on the Cobra radidio. Oh man oh man did ya eyball them seatcovers headed toward the dirty side in the country Cadillac?"
So after looking at this a bunch of different ways, I decided this was the best way for me to go as far as popular ham bands. No holes. Not a mess. Disappears completely as soon as I want it to.
So where have you guys been putting your Cb inside the truck? Also how about the antenna? I was thinking this for antenna mount http://m.campingworld.com/shopping/item/power-max-through-glass-moblie-cb-antenna/13608
I still havent mounted one
Waiting for a hood mount bracket to be produced then im going to mount either under my right knee of down in to the side of the console

This is actually the one I have and took off my Ram before selling it. I was able to hid the little box under the console and the cord just came out a seam between the upper and lower consoles, might do something similar in the truck so no drilling.
Has there been good luck on finding an antennae mount for these trucks yet? Mine was a fender mount on the driver side in the ram, not sure about the new truck yet.
I am thinking about the for my vhf\uhf antenna https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/...XxgaAm-Q8P8HAQ
Not sure how Ill mount the radio yet, I have the Icom Id-5100A that I can actually run from my phone, just need to find a spot for the mic, But I would like to mount the head unit as well, ALso have an old Icom 706 for HF but figuring out how to mount the antenna without drilling holes maybe a challenge. I though of a post hole mount but dont think it will fit under the topper lip.
I borrowed this photo from another thread... if you could find the right size square tubing to fit into the end of the hitch tube, it looks like it could be mounted kind of like a sideways stinger...
