Hey guys I am pretty sure this has been brought to light before but I can't find the info so going to ask a question that has been posted before.
I just bought a 1999 F250 SD 7.3 turbo
I am new to the diesel world. but love it so far.
The wts light does not come on. I did do research on this and also took it into a shop for a safety inspection.
They said it was the glow plug relay but could not change it out till Monday.
I took it upon my self and changed it out.
So she starts up ok no real problem but I still have no wts light and she runs fine other wise. Any answers will be helpful
Thank you
Do you have a code reader? I'm wondering if you have a P0381 DTC.
This would be a problem with the lamp circuit. Broken wire, bad bulb, blown fuse 19.
If you measure the voltage on the large posts of the glow plug relay, one is a constant 12vdc, the other post will show 12vdc for up to two minutes after the key is turned on if the engine oil is cold enough. If your getting that, then the glow plug harness is getting voltage and the PCM is turning them on. I would lean towards a bad bulb at that point.
Thank you for the reply I do not believe it is a bad bulb
Like I said I took it in to be looked at after they looked at it the wts light worked again. But after I changed out the relay it did not work again that's why I am abit frustrated.

I still don't see that in your earlier post.
I have had intermittent or loose bulbs work like that before. I'll pull up the schematic and see if there is anything that can be tested without pulling the dash.
The WTS is a predetermined on time based on sensor input and can range from 5 - 30 seconds. It is merely a signal from the PCM to remind the operator to "Wait to Start".
Now, you need to find out why it isn't coming on. Wiring? Bulb, PCM, etc.
If you have a no start with no WTS the issue is most probably a tripped fuse or the PCM itself.
Do you have a Chip or other Programming on the PCM?
Sorry I do not know. I knew that the WTS light is independent from what I have read on the subject already.
I just figured the Mechanic who looked at it knew what he was talking about.
My truck does start I just try to time it right . I do not know what you mean by chip I do know what the PCM is but I have no equipment to run a diagnostics if that's what you mean. I do thank you for trying to help
I will keep looking on here and try to find out what the problem is with people I know from around here as well.
If I've read it correct, Fuse 19 being blown would show a few more things not working, PCM, GEM, Instrument cluster, overhead console, to name a few.
It really comes down to a bulb, bulb socket, wire, or PCM output issue. Your easiest route may be pulling the gauge cluster and checking the bulb. Then check for ground and voltage to the bulb at the socket.
I do know what the PCM is but I have no equipment to run a diagnostics if that's what you mean.
PCM is the Power Control Module, the brains of the truck.
You may be getting into something past your skill set as far as troubleshooting. If your willing to take it on, and have a digital volt meter, this is something that can be taught.
One other thing...the WTS light is only a reminder light and it goes off after about 15 seconds, glow plugs will remain powered for as long as two minutes depending on engine oil temp and outside air temp as determined by the PCM. And if you live in the north you will need to wait longer than the WTS light lights.
Edit: One other thing, there are a lot of 'mechanics' that will try to fix your truck and will tell you that they know what they are doing but most of them do not and paying them to play with it gets extremely expensive.
