My old 80 started having problems, and I found if I took the tank selector switch in the dash and moved it up and down rapidly the fuel gauge and everything else would start working. It did this several times over a period of months, so I got 2s rid of the rear tank and just plumbed it up straight to the front tank. I then bypassed the switch in the dash. I never needed both tanks anyway.
I actually discovered a even worse problem I remember filling the tank when I got it in June even threw in some fuel treatment. My wife chewed me out. That's how I remember. Turns out either it leaked out or someone siphoned it.... tank is completely empty. I'm gonna put some a little fuel in tomorrow and see what happens.

Why would your wife chew you out for fuel treatment?....Are you in a high crime area where they siphon fuel ?
well that puts me back at square one. why wouldnt it pull fuel from the default tank. or even give me a signal to my gauge.
Because 1...the tank separator valve is bad and/or in combination with the tank sender being faulty therefore causing a faulty reading.
I realize that the valve is not something you want to attack given the season but...your's is an aftermarket replacement and is subject to scrutiny. Other Forums such as F150forum won't help (I'm there also). A quick fix would be to wire and plumb into one of the two tanks as a primary fuel source. We are everywhere. Merry Christmas !
im in farm country people steal fuel all the time but i think your right after looking over the tank there are some pretty decent dings in actually looks like the old spare tire carrier might have bounced off the pavement into the rear tank. I'm on multiple forums never know when you might learn something new. was actually considering a bronco tank swap on the rear. before i learned there was something goin on with it. i already changed the selector was able to get a new one from warranty. for now im just gonna use the front tank. when summer comes back i plan on taking off the bed to install my flat bed. plus then will give me a great chance to check out the wiring.
