4X4 Hubs - ESOF

Good evening everybody. I have esof 4x4 on my 16 ccsb lariat 6.2. should I also be manually locking and unlocking the Hubs periodically just to keep them loose and prevent anything from seizing over time?

Thanks.

yes! At least monthly I would turn them and drive a few miles.

Also if you think there is going to be a lot of need you can just lock them in till you are sure you won't need them.

locking them in when really cold outside ensures that they will be ready when you need them.

Thanks for the info. I locked them tonight on the way home from dinner...wow what a difference in the way the truck drives with the Hubs locked!

I notice no difference in how the truck drives on my '03, locked or unlocked. Did you also turn the ESOF to 4X4 or leave it in 2WD? 4X4 on dry pavement is a no no and would make it drive very differently.

yeah, if you manually lock the hubs in does not mean that you also need to turn the switch and engage the transfer case.

You would turn the switch to actually engage the system when you need it.

Also, if you lock in your hubs I'd keep speed under 50 MPH.

Why? There is no requirement for a reduced speed. I have run lots of hwy miles with mine locked in. Several trucks that I have owned.

It was how my old man taught me. I think I read in an owners manual from my 79. The hubs haven't changed much over the years.

I'd say it mostly habit.

I felt the front end was more engaged as if I was in 4WD. it had more drag when accelerating and the steering wheel was slighter heavier going around turns. it wasnt that anything felt wrong or bad...it was just that the front end felt much more engaged as if it was 4x4.

For my truck (2003), the owner's manual says to shift between 2HI and 4HI (into or out of) at speeds less than 55mph (hubs and/or transfer case). You must be stopped to go into 4LO. There is no recommended limit on how fast you can drive while in 4HI.
