Bed Extender
Since I ordered the 5th wheel prep, I could not order the bed extender. Has anyone added this after delivery and if so, how did it work. It looks like it would be a very simple install.

The bed extender covers the trailer plug in the bed. You wouldn't be able to use that plug with the bed extender installed and stowed. I expect you could plug in the trailer plug with the bed extender deployed but it would be a awkward or impossible reach from the ground.
I had one on my 2011 and used it a lot but not for extending the bed. Mostly it just created a smaller space for me to put stuff in the back of the bed without it rolling all around. I saw a bed organizer that used the built in brackets but haven't followed up on that. That system would allow use of the in-bed electrical connection.

Bed extender fitment
I just took delivery of my truck which has the 5th wheel tow package including the bed plug. I could not order the truck with the bed extender so I had the dealer order one and install it at time of delivery. Today I noticed that the extender doesn't seem to fit quite right. When folded away, the extender doesn't seem to push all the way to the sides and the center latch pin doesn't line up with the pre-drilled hole in the tailgate. Anyone have experience with this? I'm wondering if they installed the wrong one?

You can't order a Ford bed extender for a SHORT BED with gooseneck/5th wheel prep package....but you can order it for a LONG BED.
I ordered an AMP RESEARCH bed extender for my short bed but I haven't installed it yet....I hope it fits!

The Bed Extender on a 2017 short bed Super Duty works with the 5th wheel prep kit. It does cover the plug when it is stowed, the switch to turn the lights on/off are still accessible - a little more challenging to reach, but it definitely works. I have one installed in my truck - after it was delivered. Just wanted to let everyone know ;-)

Just curious, does the extender you added after delivery fold away correctly? Also does the extender support rod line up with the pre-drilled hole in the tailgate? I'm asking because the dealer installed the extender for me and the rod doesn't line up with the pre-drilled hole in the tailgate. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I find it strange that the support rod would be off by that much. I am wondering if we are getting the wrong extender for these trucks? I'm curious if someone who ordered the truck with the extender has the same problem? My last truck had the extender and the alignment with the pre-drilled hole was perfect.
