Thanks for the info! I find it strange that the support rod would be off by that much. I am wondering if we are getting the wrong extender for these trucks? I'm curious if someone who ordered the truck with the extender has the same problem? My last truck had the extender and the alignment with the pre-drilled hole was perfect.
Just went and messed with it again. Mine is just tight that is why the alignment is off. If I play with it I'm able to get it in much easier. So main thing for me is that it needs to be loosened up to really align with the hole. Here are some pictures.

Thanks again for your help with this issue. The extender that was installed in my truck is not as rounded as yours. I'm thinking they installed the wrong part. Do you happen to have the Ford part number for your extender? Thanks again!

I'm not certain where to find the part number but under accessories.ford.com for the 2017 Super Duty I see part HC3Z-99286A40-A. There is a part number stamped on it but it does not appear to correlate to a part number that you can order.
This is the extender that was installed in my truck. The one you have looks much more rounded. I asked the dealer to order the same part number that is listed on the Ford parts website. If you do end up finding the part number please let me know. Thanks again!

Notice the picture is of a 2016 or older truck. The part for the 2016 and older lists part 8C3Z-99286A40-C vs part HC3Z-99286A40-A for the 2017. Notice that one starts with 8 and the other is H. Can you validate the part ordered? I'll try reaching out to the dealer or my paperwork to see what I can find.
I'm looking at my service history and see install SOP bed extender but there was s no part number tied to it. Just states to install it.
Stamped on the left I see AL34-99286A41-AA
>PP-GF15<
Then an upside down N508A
Also on the right I see AL34-99286A40 - AA
The rest of the data is the same
The extender that Hollapm provided pictures for is the same one that I have in my 2015 F350. I removed it from my 2012 F150 before I traded it in and bolted it into my F350, all the holes lined up perfectly. It's definitely more rounded than the extender that you can order for the Super Duty. I use mine more for keeping things from sliding to the front of the bed.

According to the Ford site the F150 (2015-2017) is a different part number than the 2017 Super Duty.
The F150 is part FL3Z-99286A40-C
The Super Duty is HC3Z-99286A40-A
It fits, they only thing I noticed were if you torqued it to the specified torque setting then it will be very tight spinning from inside bed onto tailgate. This is due the the spray on bedliner adding thickness and rubbing it, I can live with it for now not being torqued to spec, I will look at adding some washers when I have time. I like the ford OEM because I also have a rollup bed cover and it works with that vs. the standard AMP research ones which will not work if you have a roll up bed cover. And it being able to fold is a big plus too.

Looks like in the "stowed away" position that the fifth wheel trailer plug in the bed is blocked, can you confirm for me? Looks like it would have to stay "built" in the bed to be able to use the trailer plug?

This is correct. This is why Ford won't let you build a truck on the website with the gooseneck/5th wheel prep kit AND the foldable bed extender. But you can remove it when you need to tow gooseneck or 5th wheel.
