Hi all,
Got a question about an engine installed in a 85 BII. The engine isnt original and the P.O. doesnt remember what it came out of, although he thinks it was a Ranger. Also it ran in the original truck but he never got it to run in its new home...hence a very cheap price
Anyway I am trying to find out what it is and where it came from so I can get it running. It looks like an early 2.8 V6 but that is just a guess.
Casting numbers: 83TM6059-BA 17510
Calibration Sticker Number: EK901BB
Calibration Code: 4-61F-410
Also could someone tell me what was installed in it prior to the engine swap?
It has a carb...but it also has a computer or control box inside the cab below the glove box
Bear with me I am fairly uneducated with anything newer than 79 as i usually only "acquire" full sized trucks of the 67-79 vintage.
I am begiing to think this is one of those feedback carb equipped trucks with a non feedback type installed.......hence the question of what it is and where it came from and what was formerly in the truck.
Thanks again.
If it was an 84 or 85 Bronco II it had a 2.8 V6. Period. That is the only engine it was available with. 86 and up is 2.9 V6. There are rumors of a 4.0 V6 Bronco II but nobody has seen one that I know of.
These folk are very knowledgeable about the Ranger and Bronco II trucks. There are also a bunch of mods including the duraspark mod that someone may have tried to perform since you have a non-feedback carb.
Thanks guys. I have done some checking and I am fairly sure the transplanted engine is an 83 2.8 V6 out of a Ranger. And since the Bronco came with a 2.8 V6...I guess they must be interchangeable ????
Anyhow I did some basic checks so far.... power to the coil, coil meters good, power to the pickup gismo on the distributor....rotor turns, no spark out of coil. About as far as I got.........
I also think that the P.O. re-used the original carb and wiring....what a mess...wires, vac lines, relays...... maybe that duraspark mod isnt a bad idea at least I understand how that system works
Thanks again.
The 85 wiring is a bit different. There are separate instructions for the 85 at the ranger station. That may be the problem you are having. I've got 3 Bronco II's an 84 and 2 85's. Ask if you need any more help.
Also there is a neat little trick you can do with the duraspark distributer and a 4 pin GM module that eliminates allot of the factory wiring.

Thanks I may very well take you up on the offer of help in the future.
So many projects so little time.....do not even know when I will get a chance to "play" with the Bronco again.

you just found one. ive actually driven one, 5 speed AND on top of that it was 2wd. 90 model. tell me the rarity of that one. lol its my neighbors and its quick......i still smoke him though. hehe.
sure, i can try to get one for ya. i myself dont have a digi cam, but i can get mark to come take one. as for the vin code ive never even thought to look at it. its a rough b2 for the body, the only thing is the motor in it is starting to tick, he sed he was gonna trash it when it goes.
his b2 is the one i tried to get the 2wd front end out of, i tired swapping with him for the longest and he wouldnt do it. so i had to swap to the ranger suspension...which is totally different from the b2. just a little fyi.
