I really tried to find this answer searching this forum and google in order to avoid looking like a dumb***, but came up empty. My question is this:
Does the oil groove in the thrust plate face the cam or the timing chain?
Logic would dictate it faces the cam, but the wear pattern on mine definitely indicates the groove goes out toward the timing chain.
Thrust load pulls the gear back against the thrust plate, the groove allows oil to lube the entire gear face with excess oil lubing the timing chain.
Actually I was thinking the thrust plate would only fit one way, but I've been wrong before.
Thanks D450. That should be good news and I would continue bolting things back together, but I forgot to put any lubricant on either face of the thrust plate
I could prime the oil pump but I'm not sure that would be adequate. I probably need to take the timing cover back off and put some light grease or cam lube on the thrust plate.
