2004 F350: I haven't posted in few months. I put an air cooled bullet proof oil cooler on and all has been well until last Friday. Turns over fine but won't crank. torque app says ipr at 83% but hpop only getting up to 290psi. Base oil pressure not reading on the dash gauge but pumping thru oil lines. When I parked it is was running fine! I pulled the IPR to find there is no screen on the dang thing. It must be in there somewhere?? Of course you can't see in there. I'll try a mirror tomorrow to see if I can see it. Unless someone gives me a clear cut course of action, my thoughts are it's probably the hpop and will start to tear it down. Just wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts. ???
It could be the IPR valve or it could be the HPOP.
What I have noticed from some of the 03 and 04 HPOP failures is some start to loose power before complete failure. If yours was starting to loose power before this no start then I would suspect the HPOP.
Some more info may be helpful. How many miles, tune ect.
Edit: I would exhaust all other possibilities first as those pumps can be quite expensive.
Grateful for your feed back. I didn't notice any power loss but I never drive it hard and not pulling anything lately(not boating season). Not sure of exact mileage(second engine) but around 150,000 to 200,000. It did startup slower after warmed up. Cold would start in 1 to 2 seconds and warm it would take 2 seconds to start. Just priced pumps at advance, total kit $699.00( ouch). I've seen where the 2004's can be removed without removing the intake or oil cooler. Might help that my oil cooler was deleted.?? and no tune.... just stock.
The HPOP on this engine, specifically on an 03 or 04 is one place you don't want to skimp.
After re reading you were into the HPOP resevour it seems logical that the IPR screen could have caught some debris. If the screen is missing then a new IPR may be needed. Sometimes they can be cleaned and re used.
The start up times seem about the same as mine, which I consider normal.
I used long needle nose pliers to pull the screen out. I had the crank no start issue, too. I had to replace my STC fitting. It starts and runs fine now
