Pete if you are concerned about battery gasses there are vented batteries where all you have to do is run a couple of tubes to vent the gasses overboard

True, and there are battery boxes that are sealed and vented. But they are expensive and that still does not solve the accident issue. Perhaps the Optima dry charge batteries might help? Not sure.

Certainly not a place to use the standard lead/acid battery.

I agree with using the sealed battery if in the cab. But of course mount it in a plastic housing. The last thing you want is to drop something conductive on the battery, or have it happen in an accident situation.

I'm just starting on my 55 project. Is there a reason that the under the floor mount is unpopular?

I went through Rokcrln's build thread and found a photo of his battery in the lower portion of the passenger side front fender.

Certainly a possibility for the F-1 series.

Thanks Kev

It is. But I see few are reusing that area. Is the carpet an issue? Does anyone offer carpet with a removable cutout for the battery? What is the RB? I think my 63 is in the engine compartment as well. Right off, the floor seems like a good place. But once I get the big block and trans and start thinking about exhaust, maybe not.
