Short story -- it appears Dennis Carpenter now has cardboard reproduction headliners, at least for my 1965.
Long Story -- I have been calling around for months looking for a repro. As much as Rod Doors makes a nice unit from what I understand, I really just wanted the same cardboard I grew up with, minus the mouse p*ss!
But the factory burned down earlier this year. There was some hint that perhaps it would not be rebuilt. About a week ago I spoke with a person at Dennis Carpenter, who said that they, Dennis Carpenter, were going to start producing the headliners, but she didn't know when. Said to call back in a month.
Decided to place an order at MAC's Trucks for some other stuff and saw that they still listed a headliner, at least online. I didn't really beleive that they had one, but thought perhaps they had an old stock unit from "pre-fire" days. So I ordered it. Darned expensive and $60 extra for shipping, even though it did come with my good ole' brown truck (UPS) of miracles.
Well, what do you know! Today she arrives, all nice and flat, looking like a fine reproduction. And what is stamped on the outside of the box? Dennis Carpenter Reproductions!!! I don't really know what the real story is, but I don't care. I gots mine and that's for sure!
Since mine is still flat as a board and uninstalled, I am willing to trace it onto wrapping paper for anyone who wants to try to make their own and doesn't have an original to use for tracing. Mine is the 4 piece style for a '65 (also 66, but no other years). Of course, I cannot guarantee that it is the right size, because I havn't installed it, and its not original. But I'd guess coming from Dennis Carpenter, it'll be correct. I will assemble a list of names and then trace a few off all at once. Once I have it installed, deals off obviously. Maybe I'll make a template if I get enthused, but probably not!
No problem. Take your time, as we have waited a long time for a pattern and a couple more weeks wont hurt us (me, really. I can't speak for everyone!).
my headliner was drooping but good enough to make a pattern from i purchased some fiberglass reinforced panel from the lumber yard (frp) in 4x8 sheets it is used in shower stalls and bathroom aplications one sheet will make all 4 pieces if you dont need it original or are recovering it ,it has texture & out here it comes in white & almond
Please put me on the list for the pattern. Mine is completely gone but, miracle of miracles, the dome light is still there (stuck in the roof support).
Sorry gang, addresses removed. Use the contact forum in the profiles instead. There are far too many spambots crawling web sites these days looking to scoop up email addresses.
