Help with engine decoding
I have a 302 not sure on all the codes on the block what they it mean here are the numbers behind the starter.29 E7TE. The numbers by where the starter mounts are 9A28. Any help with this would be great. thanks Bill

Just because the casting number prefix reflects 1987, doesn't mean that the block is 1987 only.
9A28 = Block cast January (A) 28, 1989 (9).

No idea what the 29 before E7TE means but I'll offer some clarity on the E7TE part. That is the code for the mold that makes the engine block, this same mold was often used for many years and only changed when there is a significant update to the casting such as the change from flat tappet to a roller cam.
