Is it the "push down" action on the t-case shifter that's not working? Common problem, caused by NOT using it. Replacement is $$$$'y. If you get it freed up, some fellas have actually drilled a hole and put a zerk fitting into the side of the shifter housing.
Quick-and-dirty option is to cut off the pin that the detent has to work its way around. That basically means you can shift all the way through without pushing down on the shifter. The old t-cases worked that way; they added the "PUSH DOWN" thing as a safeguard.
Just catching up on the original story. How could that previous owner think it had a 351, when the truck would automatically steer itself into every other gas station it came to?.... Do you still have the battery cables hooked up like that? You realize the bared portion of the cable is supposed to go INSIDE that strap that goes over the top of the terminal, to get the most area of contact, right?

I actually found the replacement linkage for $100 on amazon, and it looks like I could replace the entire unit in like 20 minutes. I don't think the Previous Owner had it very long. It seemed like he picked it up for the winter to be a second plow truck because that's what he did for a living in winter. That was a light winter, it was never actually used for plowing, and then he sold it at the end of winter. The cables are still set up that way, and to be honest, I did know that, but must have had a brain fart at the time of repair. I'll fix that.
