1965 Econoline build thread
Hey guys, new here. Just picked up a 1965 Ford Econoline Pickup a little over a month ago and we've been hard at work getting this thing restored. Our goal is a pretty good restoration when it's all said and done! This one has the 170 Inline 6 with the three-speed on the column. I purchased this truck from a restaurant in the chicagoland area that went out of business. I hope to keep you updated and answer any questions you may have!
So all these photos are some of what we have been doing since we got the truck. The new tires/wheels on it were the first priority after making sure that it runs well. It's sitting on some 8 inch wide Cragars in the back wrapped over some 255s and some 6 inch ones in the front on skinnies.
We pulled the engine just so that we can paint it, so as soon as that is finished up, I'll have pictures of that.
You'll notice in the pictures that the gear shifter that came with the truck when we bought it was actually just a wrench. While that was cool and rat rodish it wasn't really what we wanted so it had to go. Finding a factory shifter and factory door handles with buttons was a bit of a pain online, till we called a buddy at a junkyard who ended up having them and just giving them to us to help with the project.
Tomorrow night we are removing all the windows so that we can get new weatherstripping and window seals after it gets done at the body shop. It should be going to the body shop in 2 weeks and come back in January completely patched up and primered and after that, we're dropping the engine back in and then straight to the paint shop!
The final photo is it sitting there waiting for me to pull the new wheels off the front and jack it up and get the final bit of undercoating done, but it's getting damn cold out.
If anyone has any questions I'd love to answer them!
