If you are siphoning the HPOP reservoir out to get ALL of the old oil out, then you can't stop there. There is close to a quart of oil in each head that will have to come out also, or it was totally useless to siphon the HPOP reservoir out. The best way to get it out of the heads is to pull the oil galley plugs on the back of each head and let the oil drain out down the back of the engine (kinda messy). If you do this, I recommend putting new o-rings on the plugs before putting them back in. There is two or three times as much oil in the heads as there is in the HPOP reservoir.
^^^ Bill is correct. There is about 2.5 quarts in the HPO system. If you change your oil regularly then you won't need to worry draining/siphoning the HPO system. However, since this is a new-to-you truck what you're trying to do this time isn't a bad idea at all!
Installed the new ICP and pigtail last night AND......no more dieing!!! AND....I got to drive my truck for the first time in MONTHS!! I am completely shocked and impressed with how my truck runs and drives compared to when I bought it! I just drove it down to the corner and back (about a 1/4 mile) last night. Then I took my husband a ride down to the corner and back and he couldn't even believe the performance of my truck. The truck couldn't have pulled my horse trailer when we brought it home because of no power, a miss, dieing just a flat out dog! All of our hard work and $ has paid off and thanks to all of you guys, internet searches and youtube we were able to do 99.9% of the work ourselves. Thank you so much!
