Just joined your great forum, I have many questions my immediate one is,
I just bought a 2007 E450 6.0 diesel shuttle bus for my animal rescue business and realized the power steering pump is leaking. There doesnt seem to be an easy way to access the pump ,but Im sure someone on here has done it before and will hopefully share their experience with me. I can't tell where it's leaking from because , as we all know , vans are sometimes harder to work on than trucks depending on what the issue is..
The pump is quite the process to get removed, the belt pulley needs to be removed first with a special pulley remover, then the pump bolts can be accessed.
You really need to pin point the leak, it could be the pump, high pressure hose, return hose, reserve tank or the case I had with an '05, the steering gear seal was leaking.
If you can get the area clean first with some de-greaser and wiped down clean, then run the vehicle and try to find the source of the leak, you'll save a lot of time changing out parts.
Thanks for the information, I spent the day tracking down the leak and found it is leaking at on of the hose connections. I attached a picture, it's leaking from the bottom one out of the three vertical lines. Thanks
I do feel very lucky! of course now I just need to identify which one it is before I have PS fluid all over the ground. Is there a diagram of hose identification?
So, here's where I'm at with this " simple project ". I bought two sets of flair fitting wrenches , neither were big enough for the PS line , couldn't find any here in central Florida where I'm at right now, so I put the bus back together and now I'm looking for any mechanic recommendations near Daytona , even a back yard mechanic who wants to make a few extra bucks. The flair wrenches needed are larger than 17 mm .. Let me know, thanks!
