So I scrubbed them way longer than I should have. they seem to be plastic over metal if that is possible. I used purple power degreaser after trying just wash and wax soap. No luck! any idea how to get these Crappy wheels clean? And yes they are factory Ford wheels.
Those look like chrome-clad wheels. They do not hold up to a heavy scrubbing and some chemicals. I used Meguiars Cleaner Wax on the ones I had on my F150. Took most of the stains off.
Try some mild metal polish. I've had good results with the green Intimidator Pro Polish or White Diamond polish. just test in a small area first because if you get stuff that is too abrasive it will leave scratches on the chrome.
Most of that is brake dust damage but if you're close to the ocean the lighter colored stains could be from salt too.
i used a bottle of wheelz cleaner on mine and you can only leave that stuff on for about 15 seconds per the bottle and it works after the first time i used it i had to use a rag to wipe down the rims and they look great still i have not had to use it but only a couple of times
I have the same problem with brake dust, this article tells the real two options to stop it other than cleaning all the time. Myself I think once these pads wear out switching to the ceramic pads to cut down on it and elliminate the corosion that the pads on it can cause. For now keep it clean.
