Floor Jacks

My 20yr old floor jack is at the end of its life. Need to replace. Guess I shouldn't have used it to jack up the corner of my shed. Fluid level is full, don't care to rebuild, don't trust it much anymore.

Looking for a 3 ton, maybe low profile jack. I know Craftsman ain't what it used to be so I'm looking for some recommendations.

Thanks

Floor jacks are not hard to rebuild if it is a decent quality jack to begin with. I recently rebuilt my 20 plus YO Taiwan built Sears jack. I had to go to a good hydraulic shop and they ordered the parts. $10.00, total cost of the blown ram seal. Rest of the O rings were common off the shelf items I had, probably a couple $. I had a couple hours time in the job plus an hour chasing down the special part. The secret was finding a good hydraulic shop that would order the ram seal.
Edit: None of the steel parts showed any wear, just the ram seal was soft.

I do not recommend those 2 or 3 pump jacks. They are too hard to operate, and I am not in that big of a hurry.

I don't know how you feel about harbor Freight, but this jack has good ratings and there is a coupon for it for $179.00.

I'm quite happy with my aluminum "racing" harbor fright jack. It's not rapid pump, but it's lighter weight than the steel one it replaced.

But the steel one was about a 3 years old harbor fright jack of similar capacity when it died.

Unfortunately when I compared it to the craftsman jack of similar specs I found them to be, well, almost identical.

And it comes jack stands........you can never have enough jack stands.
Only thing I don't like about most of the jacks I have seen is the small dia pad.
Hard to support a trany on a small pad!

2 others but they are pricy but you get what you pay for.

NAPA floor jacks are rebuildable and repairable. Low profile to larger 3+ ton jacks. Catch one on a special sale..better than a new Sears.

My father has an *old* made-in-USA Blackhawk, it's rated at only 1.5 tons but has worked fine for anything I've used it for... I love that thing, wish it were mine.

And it has one of those large saddles kinda like the HW jacks have and I agree, that attribute is really nice to have.

Made in USA vs China... yes, you get what you pay for... if Chinese goods serve your needs, Harbor Failure is available.

Make sure you carefully research before spending more money at a "American" company. A lot of the well known American chain stores sell re-branded stuff still made in China. Just don't want you to pay more for something that is still made in China

Aye! I believe Blackhawk moved manufacturing operations to China, too.

I took a stroll thru Harbor Freight this morning. They have a three ton floor jack for under one hundred dollars.

I have a Dayton branded floor jack I bought at Grainger about 15 years ago. It's been flawless.
