Brake light switch

Roy
There are a few ways that you can hook up a brake lamp switch under your dash. The Jaguar that donated many parts to my build had a lever type switch that went against the pedal and when the pedal was depressed the lever turned on the stop lights.

I believe mid to late model Fords used a push button switch that laid against the pedal and when the pedal was depressed it turned on the lights. You could use a switch from most any passenger car or truck and make your own bracket.

There is a hydraulic switch that uses brake fluid pressure to turn on the brake lights. I am going to use two pressure switches. One to turn on the brake lights and the other to act as a safety switch. The safety switch will connect to the starter button so I will have to have my foot on the brake to start the truck. I will also have a neutral safely switch to require the engine to be started in park or neutral. It's overkill, but that's how I am going to do it.

The pressure switch would go outside the firewall so that might not work for you.

Here are a couple of photos. Hope this helps

Take care

Dan

Thanks Dan I saw the lever type in my searching, the hydraulic would be easier if not for the having the wire there already it's in that pic. Thinking of the push button type

E 250 van switch
Just looking for ideas on a bracket for a lever type or button type and if needed a bump stop and return spring

These are pretty easy to mount and the arm can be bent to accommodate a lot of positions. Most labels list them, originally for '52 Cadillacs. Don't pay more than ~$15 for one - a lot of online rod shops, etc. will try to hammer you for $35 and up. $6.99 @ Speedway Motors

I have to tweak it a bit but otherwise works great.
