Decided On This Backup Camera

Ok, so I finally got my double din head unit and put it in yesterday. I decided to throw in a backup camera because the head unit supports it. So I got:

Backup Camera and wireless Transmitter and Receiver.

*Pioneer AVH-X4800BS
*Esky 170° Viewing Angle Universal Car License Plate Frame Mount Rear View Camera
*Esky Wireless Color Video Transmitter and Receiver for Vehicle Backup Camera

I got the wireless trans / receiver to avoid running the video cable from the back to the front. Well I just found out that the radio has to have either a 12v signal or a ground signal to switch to the backup camera feed automatically. So this means either running one from the back or tapping into something from the front of the truck that will give me that same signal. I'm not too familiar with Ford wiring, just what i see it the schematics. Is there a wire I can tap into in the front of the truck that will give me the signal for the head unit to switch to the backup camera feed?

When I set mine up, I used a wired camera that displays on the rear view mirror when the truck is placed in reverse. When the camera is powered on...the display comes on...

I'd first try to use a back-up light as a trigger. If memory serves, you can find the wire for the back up lights in the front passenger sill plate or kick panel..

I bought the same backup camera and have a similar Head Unit. I ran the wires to the back which wasn't bad at all, I just ran them behind the glove box, behind the kick panel and all the way down the passenger side underneath the sill plates and underneath the plastic of the cargo area which I didn't have to removed to shove the wire behind. I drilled one hole underneath the rear cargo plastic trim plate and everything is concealed and in the vehicle. Took less than a half hour to run wires and ill never lose signal being wired.

Have you used this to verify the effective range? The 300 feet it claims is really impressive. I could use this for backing up my camper into my pole barn for winter storage. However the only disappointment is the 2.5" screen.

most of the other wireless backup cameras I have read reviews about state the video ends up being choppy.

i would love find something like that you linked to that has a bigger screen.

I've had this rig for about 5 years I mount the camera to the tongue jack and back right up. One of the features I like is being able to flip the image.

Ok, as an update I finished the install. I connected the wireless transmitter/receiver and found a reverse trigger from the front fuse box.

For anyone having the same issue looking for a reverse trigger wire I used the black/pink stripe located at the front fuse box on driver side. The wire is located on the bottom right. Works like a charm for me.

Another note to consider if you are going to use the wireless transmitter/receiver combo to transmit camera feed, do not install the receiver right behind the head unit. The wireless combo works on wifi and the head unit interferes with the wireless communication. I landed my receiver in the glove box for now with my USB cable for my flash drive so that I would not get the fuzzy picture. I read this on Amazon's review and it was definitely true.
