Quick question about cleaning wiring harness

So my harness on my '03 seems to be toast. I bought a replacement on ebay (used) and I'm going to go through it with a meter to ensure there aren't repairs to be made before I install. my question is what is the best way to clean all the oil and dust off? I'm going to use contact cleaner and dielectric lubricant on the plugs before installation, but I want it clean. I'm also going to replace the chaffing gear with new plastic. I've read online about putting it in a bucket of water with decreaser but that to me seems like a not so good idea so I'm wondering what you guys suggest. As always thanks for the help and just want to profess my love for this forum lol you guys are great.

I would suggest dish detergent, water and a brush. A degreaser may soften the glue on any electrical tape. Then blow it out with air.

A harness is not a fun thing to clean. Under all the covering sometimes
is the tacky part of the tape that has come off. It will not be an easy thing
to get super clean. If your going to dunk it I would put a baggy on each
of the connectors and rubber band them VERY tight. You could also between
the harness and baggie place some strips of latex gloves to act as a seal to the
bags. My favorite stuff is Simple Green 13406 Extreme Aircraft and Precision Cleaner
https://www.amazon.com/Simple-Green-.../dp/B001VXU7OE

You can also buy in quart bottles. But the Amazon price is not bad for the gal.

Spray it on and then rinse it off in about a minute or two.
It does not take long and you also should keep it off the contacts as much as you can.
You can always respray spots you want to get more cleaning action.

It's the only stuff that I will use in the engine bay. It's fast and does an excellent job.
Other places to buy it are Granger and places that sell supplies to pilots and mechanics.

Alright I'm gonna grab a bottle of that. I don't want to dunk it I just really hate the idea of doing that. the reason I bought this one was I can take my time going through it and make sure it's 100% before I have to put it on the truck without the truck having to be down to do it. so I'll get that cleaner and just go through little by little. thanks for the suggestions. I'm also gonna go ahead and replace ipr pigtail and the eot sensor one since I already have a new one on my existing harness is there anything else to replace before it goes on?

You might try testing it on something old to see how fast it works.
