It looks like my C6 bolted up to the 390 is leaking trans fluid out of the shifter shaft (where shift linkage attaches) I've read this is a common problem and the fix is to replace the seal & the outer o ring, however to perform this you need to drop the trans pan and valve body to get to the seal, anyone ever do this? What kind of things do I look out for when dropping the valve body, are there all kinds of things like checks *****, springs band stuff that are going to fall out ?? I've never been a trans guy so I'm a little cautious about doing this..After all the the 3 years of work on this truck and to be soooo close to hitting the street but so far from actually being on the street is killing me, its' like one thing after another..1 step forward 2 steps back...all the time!
Easy job, take your time and drop the valve body straight down. Surface tension from the oil will help hold any ***** (check) in place, use light grease to hold them on reassembly.
Pay attention to the valve body bolt lengths and locations, also keep it level.
Take pics for reference, also check YouTube. There are some vids there that will help familiarize before plunging in.
If the tranny pan has never been off, there may be a plug floating around, that can be discarded.
