GP relay.....i think.

Hey ya'll
I got in my truck this morning and noticed my idiot lights were on and i haven't even put the key in. I wouldn't start. I disconected the battery and reconnected it. When i did the GP relay clicked on and stayed on! Not sure what is happening. Any ideas? Thanks

Im thinking maybe the ignition switch. It turns over though. It acts like the key is in the on position the whole time.

If the key-to-switch linkage breaks, it may not actually turn off.

The rod that moves the key switch should be right on the top of the steering column; watch/feel how it moves when you turn the key.

what year?
if it is 91 or older the ignition actuator could have broke in a way that it will not turn off.
99% of the time the actuator breaks in a no start position, but every once in a while it breaks the other way.

Its a 91. Full story, i drove the truck in the morning for a short trip to get coffee. I got back and parked it. I got out and started walking away when i heard a "click". Didn't think much of it. Came out later to find my idiot lights on with no key in it. It would turn over but no start

disconnect the batteries. charge them up. then connect one and quickly see if the WTS light is on and if it will start.
then see if it will shut off. if not, the ignition actuator is broken.

Ok, i had a chance to take the cover off my column. The ignition actuator appears to be working just fine. It moves to all positions. So is ot the switch its self?

Switch is on top of the steering column, under the dash. It's got two nuts keeping it in place in slots; it's adjustable by loosening them and sliding the body of the switch as needed.

Once you have it loose/removed, you can move the /switch/ to see what happens.
If it still stays on even though you are moving it to the off "click", you might need a new one... which will then need to be adjusted the same way.

On the other hand, if it works properly while manually adjusting it, but won't move correctly when you use the key, there might be something wrong on the rod/actuator side of things.

Or, it might work just fine with a little adjustment.

Anyone know where i should be looking? When i connect the battery the idiot lights and the GP controller come on, but the fuel shut off does not. When i turn the key to run poaition the fuel shut off solenoid clicks open and then i can crank the engine over.
