GP relay.....i think.

So the switch is unplugged from under the dash?

That's a weird kind of short then...

yeah. Kinda strange. Does the ECU only operate the transmission? Or could it effect whats going on here?

trans only. try taking the power lead off the glow plug relay and controller. the relay or controller may be hanging up causing a power backfeed.

Thanks Tom. Thats kinda why i titled the thread the way i did. Im gonna try that next. Is it the white wire?

The white wire is what activates the relay. I think Tom means the main power wire to the relay, which should be the two sandwiched yellow 10 gauge ones.

While you're under the hood, trace the wires back to the connector they run through on the passenger fender. It's like an 8-port connector with the two yellows in and out, I think it's covered in loom normally. Due to the current they draw and the crappy plastic Ford used in this era it's a common melting point. May even be where the short is!
Best thing to do is cut them out and connect them together outside the connector to keep shorts/melting from happening later.

correct. the white wire is the ground/trigger wire for the relay. disconnect the two yellow power feeds.

I disconnected the main power from the glow plug controller and it is still energizing.

cool beans!!!! so the power leads in that there plug were shorting out and causing all your gremlins??

shure was! It melted through and the wires right next to the main power wires were making contact causing a back feed of some kind
