My first sand report

On a whim I drove over about 3 truck-lengths of deep, soft sand (3 times) today. Probably not smart as I had nothing with me (no winch, no Extraction & Recovery Boards, not even shovel or a tow-strap.)

I basically left the pavement and drove straight towards the beach. Then backed up.

First try: 2H, diff lock off. On the way in, I could feel it plowing some sand under the tires...didn't feel very comfortable. I put it in reverse, and the rear tires skipped more than I was comfortable with but took me right back out. I'd say I got lucky.

Second try: 4H, diff lock off. On the way in, it felt like pavement. (I moved over slightly to avoid my prior tracks.) Backing out was pretty much the same, but I think I felt one skip.

Third try: 4H, diff lock on. Pavement in. Pavement out.

I'm not under an illusion that this huge, heavy truck with fully inflated tires won't bury itself -- just stupid I guess. :-/ But I have a son who lives 3 minutes away with everything I'd need to get out so there's that.

All in all, a very happy Thanksgiving for me! And I love my truck even more.

Funny drove through snow yesterday 4H diff lock, like pavement. Very impressed given the torque.

Make sure you switch off the traction control. I learned this while hunting in the badlands of SK.

This is something I always forget lol and there are 3 modes I beleave, if you just click it off it only turns the advance track off, normal stays on, if you double click it, it go's into sport mode (can't remember details on this mode) and if you hold down the button it turns everything off!

I drive on the beach a lot and always hold the traction control button down to turn off all traction control. My understanding of it is that if you don't, your wheels won't be allowed to spin without the ABS pulsing.
