better traction

While bored at work, I did some research. I spun my right wheel for 30 feet when I got pissed at a moron on a tractor in the road.

Here is what I am wondering. What is the difference between the Powertrax No-Slip and the Auburn LSD? What are the advantages each? Why would you want Limited slip vice no slip? I found a company, and they dont seem that expensive, but I am assuming the install is where the money comes in. Anyone with experiance?

Garret,
Moving this thread to the Transmission, Differential Forum. You should get more input there.
Thanks!

Garrett,
I had a Toyota Tundra in which I installed a Powertrax Lock Right. It performed exactly as advertised. I had about 50k miles on the Lock Right when I sold the truck. The only drawback I encountered is that when you're moving slowly on a dry surface and the Lock Right disengages it makes quite a significant 'clunk'. It was loud enough so that in a parking lot pedestrians would look thinking I hit something. I was assured by Powertrax that was normal although they say the sound will diminish and it never did noticably. Other than that, it provided excellent traction and the install was fairly straight forward.

I installed a Powertrax lock rite a couple of weeks ago and love it so far. The only thing i have noticed is it clunks when going into gear ocassionally and it will chirp the tires going around turns every now and then. It takes about an hour to do and i would reccomend over the stock open in a heartbeat. From what i've heard the lsd is more geared towardes street use and sometimes doesnt work to well going threw some sticky mud , the locker of coarse locks both axles so they will always turn no matter which wheel looses traction.

Awesome.

Thanks a lot Brian, I appreciate the move. So everyone was pretty impressed with it. I am glad to hear that it did a great job, since Ive only heard average raves of the Auburn. I dont plan on going off-roading, me being lowered and all. I noticed I can spin the right tire VERY easily...drop the clutch at 2300 RPM. LoL. Dont ask how I know that.

And a dumb question for ya. Would the Powertrax then act like 4WD, even though you have a 4x2? Thanks for the help guys!

Garrett,

In the other forum, didn't you just tell me that you didn't see the need to get the lsd after you installed the supercharger??

You need it. Weather you decide on the Auburn or the powertrax.

A 2x4 with a locking diff will perform equally to a 4x4 with 2 open diff's, somewhat. However, if there is a 4x4 guy on here, he'll argue that.

The auburn clunks when you reverse the truck also. Auburn says it the clutches disengaging. At the track, when I'm warming my tires, I get them both spinning....nice smoke clouds.

Ahhh, very good Garrett. It's always a good idea to do as much research as possible before making a purchase. It's the smart thing to do. Don't be afraid to utilize the search engines at your disposal as well. You can get alot of info there too.

For the street your better off with an eaton or auburn posi or a detroit locker. I had a lock-right in my 93 and beat the crap outta it wheeling. When I finally had enough of the 8.8 to do the 9" swap the truck would barely move foreward without making an aweful loud grinding sound. Upon dissasembly of the 8.8 the lock-right was shredded, all the locking pins were sheared, it was a mess.
An open diff 4x4 will have a slight advantage over a locked 2wd.

So the auburn pro series would be the better over the protrax?

For your situation yes, it will be less harsh on corners/everyday driving and you can beef it up with heavy springs and more clutches.

You know, the more I think about it the more I get goosed.

I told you at least 50 times in 20 different threads to get the auburn and you don't listen to me. FordPerf comes along and tosses 3 comments at you and now your getting the Auburn.

I feel used and cheated...and sad...and my left toe itches and i can't scratch it.....and i'm having a very bad hair day on top of it all.....

Dear Gawd Tom. I never said I wouldnt go with the auburn. what I DID say was that I wasnt sure I wanted the Auburn because there was another option. I wanted to know which would be better for my application, and from what I remember, you didnt even know what the powertrax was. So hush!
