It all started by going to the store to get onions and garlic, goes down hill from there. Run down to the local grocery store that just opened a week or so ago, grab the stuff I need and get back into the Ex and turn the key and bang that's all she route. Look under there and said this is not good, starter hanging by one bolt and no bolts or pieces on the ground. So I says to myself, screw it homes 5 miles down the road. I go in the back of the Ex and get the tools and tighten up the one bolt and turn the key, nothing but a click, get the big flash light and I see the problem, soliniode cable lug broken off. Well I can maybe fix this to get home I say to myself,I'll loosen up the bolt and just make it good enough to get home and worry about it Friday. No such luck, bolt breaks off the soliniode and I put the tools back in the truck and walked home 5 miles. You ask why I walked? Well I left the phone on the kitchen counter, that's why. What really gets me is my wife never figured to come look for me after I was gone for a hour and a half to come look for me AFTER the fact that she called my phone and it was on the counter. The best was when she asked what took you so long...............................
Naa,it's the original starter,it's going to get a 6.4 now and a new cable end. I saw that you guys know what bolt sizes I need. The big one on the back side is the only one there.
I remember that kind of walk. My old Ranger like to lock up its door locks in freezing weather, so on a date night out with the wife after dinner, frozen doors. Wife waited in the late night grocery in the mall while I walked home, not dressed for the cold as hey, I had a vehicle.
This again is why I bought two boxes of serrated flange bolts from McMaster, but some light grab Loctite will work too. There have been too many occurances so of lost starter bolts. HD may have the serrated bolts too in their specialty boxes.
That reminds me. It's time to spray all the rubber seals on the doors
with some dry silicone spray lubricant to keep the door seals from freezing closed.
