Barn find
Picked thus up on Sunday, 1952 M3 from the original owner George ,he is 87. The truck was parked in the quanset back in the 70s as one of the water pumps started to leak. The plates on the truck say 1968 ,but the insurance in the glove box says 1971. The cab has vertually no rust except surface rust on the hood and roof. Looks like he painted the top of the hood with some house paint. I forgot to ask him about this. I got the original box and tailgate as well. It was taken off and put out behind the barn upside down when the truck was quite new. All the wood is gone and because it was upside down the wood rotted and fell out before it had a chance to rust out the sides of the box. But the fenders held water and the rusted out the tops. Luckily I have a set if rust free fenders from a 48 F68 here. The interior is is a little chewed up from mice but it is mostly complete.
The truck has the hard to find right side mirror bracket on the hinge and one original mirror on driver side. Front fenders are perfect minus a few scrapes. Also got the operators manual. Looks like it sat on the shelf of the house since day one. Some of the glass is broken but that is minor. All the stainless as well. One piece was missing but I found it under some garbage on the deck. I looked into the fuel tank From the filler tube and I didn't see any rust but I will need to pull the fuel float and have a look through there.
I can't wait until I get some time to give it a good wash and and see if I can get it running. I know everyone likes pictures so here they are.
I got this old jack I found in the floor boards of an old building and he gave me this tailgate as well.
I will post more as I get some more time to clean it out. , Doug.
