so i have been looking for a lift kit for my 2001 f250 5.4 for awhile now but it seems that every single lift kit that i find. in the fine print it says it will not fit my truck because the kit is designed for either the diesel or v10 engine. for example rough country just about all of their lift kits will not fit on my truck or so they say because of the engine.
so my question is can i use a lift kit for a diesel or would the spring not work because of the weight difference between my small 5.4 and the heavy diesel or v10? do anyone have any thoughts about this?
It will fit it may sit a bit higher in the front due to the 5.4 being lighter, and you will most likely need different block for the rear but even alot of the diesels I see sit a little bit low in the rear. I would suggest either Procomp, Zone, or BDS. Do not under any circumstances buy a kit from Superlift.
thats what i thought but really was not sure. i was thinking that the suspension setup was the same for all the trucks with leaf springs. but after seeing that it really made me second guess myslef. so in reality if i bought a 4in lift kit it would really be more of a 6in or something like that because of my lighter engine? and you said something about the rear blocks would i need to get a 6in block to match the front being higher? to adjust the angle of the rear axle. so i would need to get the lift and get the front on so i can see what size lift block or spring pack i would need for the rear? im not really a fan of lift blocks with that much lift axle wrap makes me nervous of tall lift blocks. could i rebuild my leaf spring packs for the rear with springs off of another truck to get the desired lift?

I have a 2000 f250 5.4. I bought a bds 4'' lift for the front a took out the factory block and replaced it with a 6'' lift leaf spring. For me this makes me truck very very close to level. Also, the front did raise a little bit more than the 4'' but only by I believe .5'' or 1'' cant remember. It is a bit bumpy sometimes being its a 5.4. However, when i put my snow plow on it rides like a dream.

^^^ 100% correct. We have sold quite a few Rough Country lifts for customers who have the gas engines even though it says Diesels only. All the measurements of the leaf springs and supporting components are the same and bushings will be the same. It just has a higher spring rate for the diesel so it will just sit a tad higher. I tried looking through my files to see if we had any before and after pictures with I came up with nothing.
Like little red said you will most likely gain about 1/2" to 1" because of the lighter motor. You will probably also lose some of that as the springs settle a bit. For a rear block you will most likely need a 5 or 5.5 in rear block 6 will be a little much if you want it to be level you could also get an add-a-leaf for the spring pack and use a smaller block. If you have a 2 piece drive shaft you will need a flat rear block instead of a tapered blocks and carrier bearing spacer kit I had to lower mine 1 1/4" but your experience may vary
thanks guys i cant tell you how much easier this is. i have been going to scrap yards and anywhere i could find trucks to find a lifted 5.4 f250 for its lift kit.
i really was making this more difficult that it really was.
