battery light on dash came on several times today going down the interstate. Problem is intermittent. When light is on battery voltage around 12.4 volts. When light goes off 13.5 volts. Is this an alternator issue or are they either good or no good? Secondly does charge wire from the alternator go through the starter or direct to the battery? Thanks in advance for the help.
I believe the charge wire goes to the battery.. and if you have the alt light coming in and out you have a alternator charging issue... I know its kinda redneck, but sometimes you can tap on the side of the alternator, but that is only a short term fix to get you going....and that may not work in every case..
You need to fix that alternator before the batteries take it in the butt and it kills the FICM.... let's see $325 for batteries + fuel injection control module @$700 + $200 alternator and the possible towing to the repair shop because it won't start...... get the idea??!!
Advance Auto on line code TRT30. Buy on line, do in store pick up, saves $50. Get a 2005-2007 140a new unit with lifetime warranty.
Heed the warnings and advice of Dr Watson go as soon as possible to get an alternator.
Mine did the exact same thing, intermittent light - I drove mine with that - not by choice, just no other way to get home, and I feel confident that's how I ended up getting to buy a new FICM.
It's pretty quick and easy to change yourself here's the biggest tip to get the tension off the belt.
While your at it get the batterys load tested separately. Shorted cells are not unheard of. It would also be helpful if people knew what you were driving.
