Virus threats

Has anyone been getting notices about a virus trying to get in when on the forum? I have the NORTON anti virus and had 2 notices of a known virus site trying to attack my system. Both happened when I was on here. It may just be a timing coincidence and it did not thru the firewall. I was just wondering if any one else has had this happen?

Thanks -I just think it was a timing thing - I was on the forum at the same time it hit. Norton 360 stopped it so no worries. dls

Glad to hear Norton worked for you. I had them on my desktop and they let something in that trashed the darn thing. That stuff is getting pretty sneaky these days.

Thanks Pete- I haven't been hit again (knock on wood or my hard head) so I am pretty sure it was just timing with being on FTE.

No one program can provide 100% protection. You might consider adding Malwarebytes (free.) Just to keep all the silliness to an acceptable level I also use AdBlocker Plus, Ghostery and a pop-up blocker (all also free.)

Ghostery here also. And I use Kaspersky. When I had my laptop serviced by Staples, they automatically install Norton. I didn't like it so I had them remove it for which they charged me. Now they don't use it any more.

Later!

Norton is one of the worst for using system resources. Very klunky. Kaspersky is one of the best. I use Bitdefender.

After two years of Norton klunkies, and numerous warning notices to re-register, for no apparent reason, I kicked Norton and went with Webroot Secure Anywhere. Right away Webroot caught a malware both Nortons (360 and regular) had missed. Also use (free) NoScript and Adblock Plus, and Syscon Shield. If you want to see the awful truth, get Lightbeam and watch how many first and third-party trackers are watching, preying upon your browsing.

I began messing around with computers back in the CP/M days. Began using Norton Utilities after migrating to DOS. I've just kinda hung with them as a result. Never really had any performance issues. Have used Kaspersky and found it quite good also. But as I said, no one AV is going to catch everything. A coupe times each year I'll toss something new into the mix in order to see how what I'm relying on is doing. Something new might catch one or two things but normally nothing of any real consequence. These things, coupled with some computer savvy (avoiding bizzare click-bait ads and stories, checking on websites before making online purchases, etc.) will reduce your chances of getting whacked.

Norton was slowing my computer down so much, I had to pay Staples to remove it. (I tried but never could get it all out).

Norton has a removal tool at https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/...rProfile_en_us that works pretty well.
