7'' Rear on the 63 would like to go to 9"

Ok not sure if I am correct I will apologize now if I am mistaken

I have a 1963 Econoline truck 87A with a rear axle of 02 (WCC-C, 7" gear, 4.00:1 ratio 2300Lbs Rating)

I would like to be able to go 65-70 mph but if I am reading this correctly I can not change the rear Ring and pinion

I have the 140 in this that has 22400 origal miles and I might keep that in there if I can get a little more speed

what 9 in can I put in that i can find. I understand the 63-67 is a direct fit what else will work with the least amount of mods

I can do most any work but the read diff I have not done on a vehicle

Thank you for any help

The only Econolines of this vintage (1961/67) that have a 9" rear axle, are 1965/67 Super Vans.

Thanks still looking for one of them for sale or what else would be the closest fit that I would need to make work with the least amount of modifications.

I really would like to keep this stock as possible but the speed has to come up to 65-70 mph. if I can do that without changing motor trans and read end then I am good

you don't nescisarily need to go to a 9 inch, if you can find one with the standard size rear end with a 3:50 ratio in it.
i did this in mine, however i've got the 170 so a little more HP to push the thing down the road. It's many years since i did the conversion though, i seem to remember we had to use the driveshaft from the 3:50 truck cuz the 4:00 driveshaft was either to short or too long. so if getting one at the wreckers grab the driveshaft too.

The 9" rear was available on Econolines from 1963-1967. Not just the Supervans. Available on all HeavyDuty vans regardless of engine, and on all vans with the 240 engine.

As has been suggested, the 7-1/4" axle came with several different gear ratios.

The width of the axles are unique to the 1961-1967 Econolines.
