Looking for a replacement hood
Greeting everybody,
I am looking for a replacement hood for my 64, it was not latched correctly and came up while driving. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I am located in the St. Louis, Missouri area.
Thx,
Tony

People tend to slam the heavy hood down, over time this causes the hood lock mounting plate to bend. Sooner or later, the hood flies up, this also causes the hood hinges to stretch.
When this occurs, the safety catch is just about worthless.

If you have an ebay account suggest place 'items of interest' on their daily email notification, the hoods due come up on occasion. Recently sold a hood I placed on ebay, there was an influx of interested parties but by the time shipping was included the total cost was prohibitive. In estimating the cost of shipping to a mid state to $600; that is if I were to wrap, secure it to a pallet, and transport it to local shipping location some 60 miles away, this was not going to happen. Sold the hood to a individual in Germany; he contacted a source thru their community network and found a person who travels from So. Cal. to No. Cal. and transports vehicles, parts, etc. for various customers then delivers them to a shipping company; in this case, met the individual within 10 miles of my residence, we place the hood, unpackaged, on the auto transport trailer, he then returned to So. Cal. and delivered it to a freight company out of So. Ca. docks, customer paid $200. Anyhow, it required less labor to travel to Germany than if I were to sent it a few miles?

Possibly a matter of the hood latch assembly; hinge adjustment, or replace, hood bumpers, or rear cowl seal. A reputable and skilled auto body person should be able to set the hood, or advise if replacing the hood is necessary.

Hi Dave, Unfortunately the original hood is damaged beyond repair, it opened while under way and came back and touched the top of the upper rain channel. I found one in Chicago and brought it home. My resto shop said that the hinge bolt up is not structurally sound and we need to locate another hood. So this is where I am. Back on the forum reaching out for another hood.

Hood purchased years ago and recently sold, acquired by setting up a daily ebay email notification under '1961-1966 Ford parts' then narrowed the search to a certain distance I was willing to travel, monitored seller's from the list and came across a few who appeared to be parting out. Emailed and got lucky.
May want to consider posting a thread with your local FTE charter and inquire; in addition, in event come across reasonably priced truck, salvage the hood and inquire if other member's interested in what remains?
Finally, as a last resort, have not checked lately, there is/was a company that reproduces fiberglass replacement hoods.
Anyhow, food for thought??

It took a while due to ship transport, but the hood arrived well here in Germany.
Thanks!
