I'm putting together a list of parts I need to get this thing road worthy and found this mess up underneath zip tied on. What all would you say I need to order to get this all functional again? Lemme know if you want some more photos of stuff, it's definitely a work in progress.
That appears to be your parking brake. The single cable from the cab feeds to that piece that is supposed to pull the rear brakes evenly. Looks like you need to replace all the cables at least, some of the hardware might not make it depending on how bad it's really rusted. I'd make sure to check the rear brakes because if that is how the parking brake was it lends me to think the rear brake might be as bad.

Yeah that's what I thought, that that's the bracket that mounts the two cables to each rear wheel. It looks like there's one for the front as well so I think I'll just replace em all. Also the park break pedal goes right to the floor so I'm wondering if the brake assembly needs to be replaced as well. Good call on testing out the brakes too

My bad, I must have clicked the link above the one I wanted. You can move it if you want but to be honest I don't think they changed any of it for the 87-96 era trucks

The pedal goes to the floor because there isn't anything connected to it. I'd start with cables and the equalizer assembly that joins the front cable to the rear cables. You also should check the adjusters in the drums.

Yes technically this is the wrong section.
hmm, I thought they were usually spring-loaded such that it wouldn't do that. OK, that's a plan then, 'keep it simple stupid' right?
The system is the same as the one in this generation of trucks, if you want me to I'll move it to the bullnose forum, but the info here will be relevant too, and it's nice having visitors around .
I'm sure it'll be obvious once the cables are replaced, but make sure that zip tie is cut once the cables are fixed. Don't want to re-replace the brake line, when you press the parking brake and jerk the tube.
99% sure it's there to keep the bracket from dangling.
unfortunately you are going to need everything to get the park brake working again. the front cable is going to snap the first or second time used if not replaced also.
if i remember correctly, there is also a larger spring that connects from the frame to the distributor bar to pull the cables back in the off position.

Any idea what that might be called so I can try and track the part down...is this what you are talking about?
