Help identify this lever!!

Can someone tell me what the 3rd lever to the right is???
I just bought a 1951 ford f3 and im working on getting her running but i dont for the life of me know what this is!!! It appears to go straight into the transmission. I have a few guesses but can someone clarify?

Hi, and welcome to FTE.
I think it might be the engagement lever to the Power Take Off that is likely bolted to the side of the transmission. The lever location is about right for that.

It is the PTO lever. Was your truck a dump truck? Did it have a hoist? There should be another lever to raise and lower the bed. Most dump trucks have another lever next to the PTO lever. Is there are **** on the dash to raise and lower the bed?

Wow! You all are super helpful! I had to look up what a PTO is , there are no other levers in cab but there are a few ***** on the dash. My understanding is that the truck spent it whole life as a fleet truck on an airport. Thanks for all the input!
Is a PTO hard to remove?

If you remove the PTO you will need a blank off plate to cover the hole. '
Did you buy the white F1 airport truck that was on ebay?

No, the one I am thinking of had no roof and was setup like a support vehicle, almost like an old firetruck.
Looks like a good start to a build!

Don't scrap it if you end up not using it. There are guys out there that can use it. The lever and any linkage as well.

My F3 did not have one but, the T-98 trans I put in had one. I sold the PTO and linkage to a guy that needed it for his build.

It just unbolts from the side of the trans. You can find a cover plate to put on or make one easily.

Good luck with your build!

Pto doesn't necessarily run a hoist , could be winches , fuel , oil pump or water etc.

Yes, you are right. The first thing you think of with a PTO is a hoist. It would be interesting to see what the PTO was used for on this airport truck.
