the engine is hyped out, the car it came from was a 68 that was caged and had nos, it has roll bars going through the firewall and no inners, engine also was to powerful for the last owner another reason why he sold it
there is no casting numbers on the engine online found D1F and 2 was under neath it
i found that by the oil filter I think
14 352 another number
engine is not stock punched out, sk 35369 heads forgot the intake but not stock anyways
it has cross bolt mains
How do I tell if it's a side oiler or top oiler?
here are some pictures
That's a center (top) oiler block not a side oiler, I could be wrong but it doesn't look like a 427 center oil ether, more like a production block that's been cross bolted and maybe bored.
Looking at the pic of the back of the block there's two plugs on each side of the cam plug where the lifter galleys are, 427 lifter galleys weren't drilled so there shouldn't be any plugs there.
The plug below the cam plug is where the center oiler's pressure relief valve goes and should be threaded for the relief valve so a common drive in plug won't fit, also without the relief valve in place oil will be dumped back into the pan thru the relief port causing very low oil pressure.
The engines been put together using various parts from other years so it's hard to say what it is without looking inside, looking at the bent or broken dip stick tube the oil pan may need to come off to fix that and one could do a rough bore and stroke measurement from the bottom without pulling the head.
Back a few years ago there was a outfit selling FE parts and engines on ebay that they had made using cross bolt caps from destroyed 427 blocks while trying to pass them off as rare performance engines. I remember their ebay name but won't list it, they gave FE's and bad rep for a while.
Hope you haven't got one of those engines
I've got a set of those SK heads for my 406, nice flowing heads.

Hey yeah it's going to the shop tmr and the guy who is going to dyno it knows about FEs. So he's going to check it for me , I know the engine must be bored to something bigger because engine was drag raced and had nitrous so has to be a bit tough inside, I'll know the outcome tmr

I don't see how having a bigger bore makes it "tough inside."
If anything an overbored block with thinner walls is considerably weaker.
